If you managed to score tickets to Lorde’s sold-out Australian tour in October, here’s one of the songs you’ll be able to hear her playing live. ‘Team’ is the latest song to be released from her upcoming album Pure Heroine, which is due to come out on Monday October 28, just a week after she wraps up that Australian tour.
‘Team’ is closer to being a beat-driven banger than the songs we’ve heard from Lorde so far, but her voice is still centre stage. The contrarian streak she showed off in ‘Royals’ is also still very much on display, with lyrics like “I’m kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air/So there” and “We live in cities you’ll never see on TV/Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things.” You can listen to it below.
Lorde may only be 16 years old but the New Zealander has been signed since she was 12 as part of a development deal with Universal. Earlier attempts to match her with songwriters ultimately fell flat and it wasn’t until she began writing her own songs that she felt ready for the world. ‘Royals’, ‘Tennis Courts’ and ‘Team’ certainly bear that out.
